I would like to highlight a local charity that I support to encourage you
to take some time to serve your community in some way through service
or through a financial donation.
It has been said that when you give of yourself to others, you usually
receive more than you give. I have found this to be true in my work with
community organizations, charities, and other worthy causes.
One local organization worthy of such service is called Urban Youth Impact.
Started in 1997 by former professional golfer Bill Hobbs, Urban Youth
Impact’s mission is to love, equip and empower inner-city youth
and their parents.
I was introduced to Urban Youth Impact by reading about its impact on one
of my employees. When I “Googled” my employee’s name
after he interviewed with my office, an article he wrote appeared. His
article talked about how his life was changed by UYI. When this young
man interviewed at my office, he was confident, intelligent, and well
spoken. His presentation had no trace of his difficult upbringing in West
Palm Beach without the guidance of parents. He had been raised in the
Dunbar apartment complex in West Palm Beach, by his grandmother. This
complex had been the site of many crimes. He spent years in Urban Youth
Impact, learning life skills through the organization’s various
programs. His goal is now to become an attorney, and he is well on his
way to achieving that goal.
After hiring this impressive young man, I contacted Urban Youth Impact
to see if I could help. I went, with my daughter, to the “Christmas
Store”, their annual Christmas gift giveaway event for families
who cannot afford gifts for children. Each December, the Christmas Store
provides thousands of gifts to underprivileged urban youth. We spent an
afternoon wrapping gifts, along with hundreds of other volunteers. The
experience was tremendous. I truly received more than I gave.
This month, I had the privilege of making a donation to Urban Youth Impact
for their summer fundraising drive (check out these Facebook photos).
I feel lucky that I can contribute my time and my resources to organizations
such as Urban Youth Impact. For more information or to simply see what
this organization is all about, visit their website at
Summer is a great time to volunteer with your kids in any capacity. Take
advantage of this opportunity. You might find that you receive more than you give.
Have a safe and fun summer,
Craig Goldenfarb, Esq.
