A three year old boy drowned on Thursday, February 9th. The boy was in the care of his grandparents in their home, in Gainesville, Florida. The boy was being supervised by his grandfather and an aunt. They did not realize that he wandered out of the home. When the child's grandmother and another aunt came home, they asked the grandfather where the boy was. It wasn't until then that everyone became aware that he gone outside.
He was found at the bottom of the pool where he was believed to have been for at least 10 minutes. He was given CPR and taken to Shands Hospital where he was declared dead.
It was a typical Florida "in ground" pool. All pools are required by statute to have barriers and gates to prevent this type of accidental drowning. However, pools that belong to older homes are exempt from the statute.
