Orlando Man Killed by Lynx Bus

An Orlando man is dead after being struck by the Lynx bus he was trying to catch.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the South Florida pedestrian accident occurred on Thursday, December 30.

Thirty-eight-year-old Alin Matos-Dotel was running after a bus that had just pulled away from the stop at West Oak Ridge Road near Texas Avenue.  He lost his footing and fell next to the bus' right rear wheel.  He was then hit by the bus. The victim sustained serious injuries and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he died later that day.

The bus accident is under investigation, but charges against the driver are not expected to be filed.

While public busses are an energy efficient and usually safe way to travel, the size of public busses can cause devastating pedestrian accidents. In 2008, the most recent year for which statistics are available, 247 busses were involved in fatal accidents; 91 of these were commuter or city busses.
