In the event that your car becomes disabled or you are in a
Florida traffic accident, are you prepared to wait until help arrives? Craig Goldenfarb, a
car accident attorney in West Palm Beach, suggests putting together a car safety kit.
Include:
1. Old towels: these can be used to wipe debris off your windshield or to mop up blood.
2. Water: we recommend 2 gallons. Replace the water every 6 months.
3. A small fire extinguisher
4. First aid kit and extra antibacterial wipes
5. Small blanket, preferably with a waterproof backing
6. Emergency road flares
7. Bungee cords
8. Battery operated or hand-cranked AM/FM radio. Spare batteries.
9. Flashlight
10. A water bottle for each family member
11. A package of plastic bags or old grocery bags
12. A small backpack in case you need to leave your vehicle to get help. The remaining items should be placed in the backpack.
13. Rain ponchos for each member of your family
14. Emergency survival blanket
15. Emergency food rations and granola bars
16. A package of baby wipes
17. Cell phone
18. Tissues
19. Light sticks
20. Seat belt cutter/ window breaking tool. Such as ResQMe or Life Hammer
Put everything together in a duffle bag in your trunk. If you will be travelling outside Florida in winter, you may want to include an ice and snow scraper.
We hope you never have to use this kit, but in an emergency it could save your life.
