How can nursing homes prevent bedsores?

A: Bedsores are often caused by bad care, and they can be prevented by good care.  Patients in bed all the time lose circulation to certain parts of their body that come into contact with the bed, often the heels, lower back or buttocks.  Regulations require that patients should be turned every two hours.  Wedges and pillows can be placed between the heels and the bed to prevent pressure sores from starting.  Family members should visit patients and look at their heels to make sure there is no redness or breakage of the skin.
