A popular Del Ray Beach teen has died after being injured in a Lake Worth car crash.
The single vehicle accident occurred early on the morning Sunday, February 13. Eighteen-year-old Melissa Bergstein was riding in a 2005 white Nissan that was being driven by her boyfriend, 17-year-old Mateo Londono.
They were headed eastbound on Lantana Road in Lake Worth when the car struck the median near Woodland Creek Lane. The vehicle traveled another 50 to 60 feet before slamming into a palm tree. A 13-year-old also was in the car. All three were injured. They were taken to Delray Medical Center.
Ms. Bergenson died from her injuries on Valentine’s Day. Londono remains in critical condition.
Bergenson was a student at American Heritage High School where she was a star soccer player and the manager of American Heritage's wrestling team. She was planning to attend college at the University of Colorado in the fall.
It is truly a tragedy to have such a promising life end so suddenly. The Law Offices of Craig Goldenfarb, P.A. offer our condolences to the Bergenson family.
