Elderly Woman Dies After Pedestrian Accident in Boca Raton

Posted on Sep 12, 2011

An 85-year-old woman has died from injuries sustained in a Boca Raton pedestrian accident in which she was run over by her caretaker.

Miriam J. Link of Boca Raton was injured on August 5, 2011. She was waiting at a crosswalk on the 22000 block of Camino Del Mar for her caretaker, Delrose M. Reynolds, 57, of Coral Springs. Reynolds was driving Ms. Link's vehicle, a 2000 Lexus. Reynolds backed out of her parking spot in order to get the vehicle closer to Ms. Link, but hit the accelerator instead of the brake. The Lexus hit the raised curb and crashed into a wooden pole before hitting Ms. Link and knocking her to the ground.

Ms. Link sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Delray Medical Center. She was later transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. She died from her injuries more than three weeks later, on Saturday, August 27.

Charges are pending in this Palm Beach County pedestrian crash.

Every year, 292 pedestrians die in back-up accidents; more than one-third of these victims are adults over the age of 70. The elderly often become victims of pedestrian accidents because they lack the mobility to get out of the way of an on-coming vehicle.

In 2014, back-up cameras will become mandatory on all new vehicles.

The West Palm Beach pedestrian accident attorneys at the Law Offices of Craig Goldenfarb would like to extend our condolences to the family of Ms. Link.
