A Jupiter man who was a Boca Raton firefighter died in a crosswalk accident in Jupiter.
The Florida pedestrian accident occurred on Monday, February 7. Fifty year old John Wilson was riding his bicycle on the crosswalk at the intersection of Indiantown Road and Maplewood Drive. He was hit while in the crosswalk by a Chevy Trailblazer that turned east on Indiantown Road.
The Trailblazer was driven by Myron Umbel, 66, a part-time Jupiter resident.
Wilson was found unconscious just before 10 a.m. at the accident scene. He was flown to St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach where he died from his injuries.
Police are still investigating the accident and no charges have been filed.
In addition to being a firefighter, Wilson was the father of three grown sons and an avid cook and bicyclist. He chose to live in Jupiter because he believed it was a "pedestrian-friendly" place where he could safely ride his bike.
