









In 2009, 10,839 Americans lost their lives in drunk driving accidents. Drunk drivers accounted for nearly one-third of the total motor vehicle accident fatalities.
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) is sponsoring a national law enforcement effort designed to reduce the number of drunk drivers on the road. The national "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign runs from August 19 today until September 5.
Police officers in Jupiter are doing their part to crack down on drunk drivers in Palm Beach County. They will be patrolling the roadways near the bars and restaurants on U.S. 1, Indiantown Road and Donald Ross Road.
Other West Palm Beach police departments will be performing similar crackdowns in their own communities.
