A Palm Beach man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for a 2009 hit-and-run death. The driver must also pay $5,000 in restitution to the victim's widow.
The Florida pedestrian accident occurred in April 2009. Forty-one-year-old Bradley Kelly Sr. was watching an illegal drag race, when he stepped into the middle of the 7500 block of Garden Road in Riviera Beach in order to stop an uninvolved vehicle from getting in the way of the race.
Richard Cleveland Glinton Sr., 56, was racing a red Ford Mustang. He was driving at about 90 mph in a 45 mph zone. Although several people warned Glinton to stop, he struck and dismembered Kelly who was unable to get out of the way. Glinton sped away from the scene of the accident. Kelly died at the scene from his injuries.
During the Palm Beach County accident, the Mustang sustained massive damage its front end. Police were able to match the vehicle with debris left at the scene.
Glinton has previous convictions for drug offenses, weapons possession, and for battery on a law enforcement officer.
