









A toddler has been hospitalized and is in critical condition after falling into the family's pool in Sunrise, Florida.
The Broward County drowning accident occurred on Saturday, March 26. A three-year-old boy had wandered and fell into the family pool. When police officers arrived at the home the boy had been pulled out of the pool, was he not breathing and had no pulse for more than ten minutes. Rescuers began CPR. The boy was rushed to Plantation General Hospital where he went into cardiac arrest.
At the hospital, doctors administered CPR for more than ten minutes and were finally able to restore the boy's pulse and breathing. The child has been placed on a respirator.
Dixon said a one of the boy's parents and a teen sibling were home at the time of the accident, each apparently thought the other was watching the boy.

Tragedies like this can be prevented. Pools should be fenced and gates to pools should be kept locked. Parents can install a bell or alarm to let them know if a child is entering the pool area.
