An Easter Sunday sail turned into an unpleasant afternoon, when two airboats collided head-on in Lake Okeechobee. Three people, including an eight-year-old boy, were taken to the hospital with injuries.
The boat crash happened on Sunday, April 24 at a bend in the lake known as Boy Scout Cut. Thirty-year-old Stephen Pellicer of Belle Glade was piloting an air boat. His eight-year-old son, Chase, was a passenger. As they rounded the curve at Boy Scout Cut, they crashed into another air boat. This boat was piloted by 51-year-old Andrea Carter of West Palm Beach.
All three were injured and taken to Lakeside Medical Center in Belle Glade for treatment.
The Lake Okeechobee boating accident is still under investigation, but alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash.
Fifteen percent of U.S. boating accidents occur in Florida. When boating accidents are caused by negligence, injury victims may be eligible for compensation. A West Palm Beach boating accident attorney can provide more information.
