Another child has died in a tragic Florida swimming pool accident. A two-year-old girl is dead after being found floating in an Ocala pool by a relative.
The swimming pool death occurred on Monday, August 22. Alaina Young was swimming with her family in the swimming pool at 500 SE 52nd Avenue in Ocala. It began to rain and the family left the pool. No one noticed when the little girl got back into the pool on her own.
When the Alaina's uncle, Joseph Sweeting, came outside to grill some food, he saw Alaina floating in the water. He pulled her out and began performing CPR. Family members called 911 and Alaina was taken to Munroe Regional Medical Center. She was later flown to Shands Hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Alaina died at Shands Hospital.
According to the Marion County Sherriff's Office, there were adults near the pool at the time of the accident, but they were not able to see the girl in the water because of low light and landscaping around the pool.
Since June, two other Florida toddlers, both also age 2, have died in drowning accidents. Learn how to prevent similar accidents, read our article, "Safe Swimming: A West Palm Beach Drowning Lawyer's Guide To Pool Safety".
