West Palm Beach Anti-bulling Attorney To Help 8-Year-Old Victim

A school is supposed to a safe environment where children can learn without fear of harm.  But, for Christian Staley, a 3rd grader at Seminole Trails Elementary School in West Palm Beach, school has not been a safe place. Eight-year-old Christian says has been repeatedly bullied by another 3rd grader since last November.  Not only did the school not stop the bully, but in a recent incident Christian received the same punishment as the boy doing the bullying.
 
On April 19, 2011, Christian and the bully were on the playground.  The bully pulled Christian's hair and threw him into a basketball pole. Christian tried to stop the attack by pushing the bully away. Both children were suspended from school for three days.  The punishment was later reduced to one day plus probation for both boys, but no investigation was made into the bullying accusation.

The bully had been suspended twice before: one time for bringing a knife to school and one time for making a knife out of a pair of scissors.  Christian's father wonders why the school did not do more to discipline the child after two knife incidents.  He is worried for the safety of his son.
 
Craig Goldenfarb, the West Palm Beach anti-bullying attorney hired by Mr. Staley, intends to sue the Palm Beach County School District. He believes the district's "zero tolerance policy" that suspends kids for fighting regardless of the reason is being used as an excuse for not investigating the bulling incident.
 
Last year, Goldenfarb threatened to sue the district on behalf of Jeaga Middle School student Joshua Poole.  Joshua was also suspended for defending himself against an alleged bully.
