In a variation of our normal column, we are featuring some of the community
work that our staff members participate in.
In the last few years, Tom has made volunteering in his community for underprivileged
youth one of his top priorities. Since first moving to West Palm Beach
in 2009, he has served on the Board of Directors for
The Children’s Coalition Inc., and volunteered as an in-class instructor with
Junior Achievement. He currently spends his holidays working with a local church-funded group called
Youth Urban Impact.
Tom’s work has always involved being face-to-face with those he is
helping. In his various roles, he has done everything from painting the
walls of a children’s home to donating PR work and website design
services. Today, Tom also sits on the
Sustainability Advisory Committee for the City of West Palm Beach, FL, a civic panel that advises Mayor Muoio and the city's Office of Sustainability.
“For me, lending my time and talent is more powerful than giving
money”, says Tom of his activities. “Although fundraising
and donating money is imperative to an organization's success, when
you take time out of your life to stop what you normally do to focus your
energy and time on something that wouldn't be the same without your
sweat equity, it’s a powerful thing. It’s a big piece of the
puzzle of creating a better community.”
