common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings
of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this
Constitution for the United States of America."
Over 226 years and across every nation of the world, in every successive
generation since it was published, the words of the United States Constitution
have defined the goals and hopes of people, often united only by a common
desire to live free from the oppression of unjust rule.
The words are as pertinent today as when they were written in 1787 and
have resounded in the hearts and actions of people across the globe who
are willing to sacrifice their fortunes and their lives to live in a society
governed by a system of Justice. The parchment the Constitution was written
on all of those years ago lives and breathes anew with the changing needs
of people as the years progress.
The addition of the Bill of Rights is testament to the United States Constitution
as a living document which provides to "our Posterity" a malleable
framework under which people of every era may be guaranteed a constitutional
system designed to provide Justice.
As an attorney laboring in the civil courts throughout the State of Florida,
it is my honor to serve in a system which guarantees free access to the
Courts for all. It is my sworn duty to fight against those who would block
that access and prey upon the powerless, the injured and the poor.
