Our staff takes great pride in volunteering for activities and causes that
are close to our hearts. Such was the case when we discovered that one
of our employees is dealing with a personal bout with melanoma, and that
May was Melanoma Awareness Month.
Melanoma is one of the most dangeous and common skin cancers. Fortunately,
it’s also easily detectable, treatable, and preventable.
The RDK Melanoma Foundation is a local non-profit that works to empower
the public to protect itself from Melanoma through education.
During the month of May, LOCG volunteers dedicated a few hours one Saturday
morning at the Palm Beach Outlet Malls to further the organization’s
mission by educating the public. The event was called SUNsational Mother's
Day, and the goal for the day was to spread awareness and educations about
the dangers of melanoma and skin cancer.
Our volunteers spent their morning handing out free sunscreen, playing
"safe sun" games with kids, using a UV machine that helps people
see their sunspots on their face, and raising donations through a raffle drive.
The Ricard David Kann Melanoma Foundation is a Florida 501 (c)(3) non-profit
dedicated to saving lives through education. The Foundation is in memoriam
of Richard Kann, who died at an early age due to late detected melanoma.
